Build a new pool for your school
Contributed by: Mad Vlad
Expense: High
Number of people: At least four, including lookout. More is better, but it should be
doable with four (we're still working on this one)
Time: Several hours preperation, half hour to an hour setup, and fill time.
Materials: Lumber depending on size of your pool, several (at least two) large tarps, a
goodly number of large bolts, nuts and washers, screws, garden hose, a house
near the school.
Tools: Ratchet set and/or wrenches, drill, screwdriver bit for drill, drill bit sized
to fit the large bolts, a truck
A quick method of building a pool. Find the largest possible
waterproof tarp (you know, the big blue ones). Use 2x4 lumber to construct a frame to lift
the sides of the tarp about 3 feet off the ground. The sides of the frame should look like
large ladders, 3 feet wide with rungs every 3 feet. Using 4x4 posts as corner posts, drill
holes in the frame of each side to allow the bolts to pass through the sides and the corner
posts. Place the screws through the grommet holes on the tarp and into the sides of the
frame. The result should be a rectangular frame with the tarp hanging almost straight down
off the sides and forming a bowl. Now unbolt the corners from the frames, and the result
should be 4 long frames and 4 posts. The tarp should be unhooked from the screws. This allows
the whole thing to be easily moved. A U-Haul truck may be handy if you are unable to borrow
a pickup truck. Now, at night or early in the morning, reassemble the pool somewhere on
school grounds, preferably on top of the school building. The ratchet set should allow this
to be done fairly quickly. In order to fill the pool, you may need a special wrench or such
to turn on the faucets of the school - check this out before you start.
